Remember when Mike Wazowski and the Oozma Kappa crew break into Monsters, Inc. to get a little inspiration for the scare games? Well, we couldn’t stop thinking about the scare cards that Mike and Sulley chat about after watching the movie on again on Blu-ray.
Mike: You collected Scare Cards, huh?
Sulley: Yup, 450 of ’em!
Mike: Impressive…I have 6,000 still in mint condition, but you know, 450’s pretty good too.
Once we saw the end credits (with all of the scare cards flying around), we wanted to pull together a list of the Scare Cards from a few different sources. So, which ones do you have? Which ones do you need? And will they ever be produced more broadly? Read on for more details.
Disney Parks Scare Cards
The first set of cards was given to attendees of the Monstrous Summer 24-hour event held on May 24-25 at Disney World, Disneyland, and Disney California Adventure. The cards that were released at the Disney parks are what we are calling the “official” cards.
They were given in packs of 6 (1 top card which was the same in all packs, and 5 random Scare Cards) and the total set of cards includes 30 cards (29 numbered cards and one un-numbered top card). If you add in the Disney Store Scare Cards listed below this section there are a total of 36 cards (34 numbered cards and two un-numbers top cards)…see below.

Disney Store Scare Cards
Thanks to our reader Randy, we have learned that the Disney Store was passing out packs of six cards over the 2013 Halloween holiday to promote the release of the Blu-ray. The packs all contain the same six cards (five character cards with one top card). Thanks as well to Randy for the photos!

Projectionist Scare Cards
This set of Scare Cards was only released to projectionists at movie theaters as a promotion for the film and was offered as a set of 10 cards (9 Scare Cards and 1 Top Card). (The promotional cards also came with a Monsters U hat as well that said “Perfect Projection” on the back.) The card images below are the same images that appear in the movie end credits – the difference is that the banner in the upper right-hand corner of the cards of these cards doesn’t say what scare company they work for, but instead it lists the June 21 release date for Monsters U.
Potential Future Release Scare Cards
There are three additional Scare Cards that you can find digital images of (not printed cards) if you have the Monsters, Inc. Storybook Deluxe and (yes, and) the Monsters University Storybook Deluxe iOS apps. (UPDATED: The apps are unfortunately no longer available in the Apple App Store).
With these extra card designs already laid out, we have to imagine that there are even more that are already prepared for printing. So, I think it’s only natural to want to see more of these cards produced.
COLORING BOOK CARDS
Additionally, there was a coloring book titled, “Scaring All-Stars” which was released on Amazon and contained card-stock versions of the characters listed below. Unfortunately, none of the cards were newly announced characters, but the two pages of cards (8 perforated cards on each page) are a great way to continue your collection.

Will The Scare Cards Be Released Broadly?
As fans of the Scare Cards have turned to eBay to try and complete their sets, Twitter user laughograms asked Monsters University director Dan Scanlon (on June 23, 2013) if the Scare Cards would be released in stores. Dan responded with…” be patient”.
Now, it has obviously been a while since the movie hit theaters, but with the Monsters U Blu Ray being released (in North America), we couldn’t help but wonder if they would be released soon — or before the holidays? We’ll be sure to keep everyone up to date if we hear any updates.
Update (March 2014) – It appears most likely that the scare cards will not be released broadly at this point – this is a bummer since the design of these is so fantastic. If any news does pop up we’ll be sure to update the post.

I went and bought the OK ones for £100 and then the guy started offering them for £10 right aftergot to get the other 29 cards and then the two cover cards//sigh
Unfortunately none of the cards were released broadly at any store for sale. They were only available in the park or offered as part other giveaways at exclusive times. eBay has been the best bet for most people. Glad to see you asked other members here as well – if anyone else has any please feel free to reply here.
Randy, if you have extras that you want to sell please let me know… they can be worn or creased, they are for a two year old who has an obsession with the cards at the end of the movie

I am not sure why they didn't print the extra 9 or 10 shown in the credits. Especially if the images were already made.
Sadly, the Hardscrabble one wasn't produced, it was only shown briefly in the end credits of the movie itself – so the only image of the card that we have is the small image of the front of the card (shown above).

I was able to get the whole set when they were reasonably cheap. The DVD pack I got for free of course at the Disney store. I think the projectionist set was around the $50 mark. The regular set of 30 was acquired from packs from the ebay seller in Florida. I sold most of my extras to pay for the 40-50 packs I bought. I ended up breaking close to even. If you were looking for any, I still have tons of extras of the regular 30. I had planned on keeping an unopened pack of each of the back cards, but fell short by one pack. I still need a pack with Betty Stevenson #08 back card pack. I have the other 5.
Ha! Yeah, it would be nice to get any of these for free any longer. I pretty much gave up on collecting them any longer just because of the price factor. I have one pack that a great friend sent us and that's the extent of my collection sadly!
These are probably the most sought after cards and basically none are available anymore. The projectionist set and blu-ray packs are outrageous now, pending someone has any for sale. Fortunately I was able to get the projectionist set when there were several online and bought it at a pretty good price and I was able to get the Blu ray pack for free at the Disney Store. Wouldn't that be awesome now? Lol
I know – it's crazy!! People want these for sure – heck, you're talking about it even a year after they were originally released! We feel the same way!

Hey Randy, the only way I could think to print them would be to take a screenshot from your iPad and then send it to your computer. From there, you could crop and try and print the cards from there. I can't imagine that there would be a way to print from within the storybook apps. Oh, and it's never too late to chat about the scare cards – this is actually our most popular post (number of hits) we've ever done on our site!

I saw an entire set listed on ebay earlier. It has a reserve, but the buy it now is pretty high. Be preapred lol. I haven't added up my total, but I am probably at $200 – $300 for my set. I just received Jerry Jablonski in the mail today to complete my set. Lots of the new packs and Sandersons popping up lately too. Seems Jablonksi and Earl (12the year) are the hardest ones to find at the moment.

Yeah, me neither before I bought it. It only contains The blue umbrella and directors commentary, the 3D Blu-Ray contains more..
That's a bummer that the Dutch version only contained 2 bonus features – didn't know that!
Dan Scanlon explains this in the commentary but it was already pretty apparent…Monsters inc has many scare floors and in the original film, we really only see one. We don't see even a fraction of all the monsters probably scaring there at MI.

I was told the clinics were at the Disney stores. Once or twice a week through the summer. Once a child completed the clinic, they were given pins, stickers, a MU I'd card, and a pack of scare cards. All the packs were the same. they included #1 which was the Mike and Sulley Rookie of the Year card. #5 Art, #10 Don, #15 Terry and Terri, #20 Scott Squibbles (no longer called Squishy). Terry and Terri was the back card on all packs. The cover card is the same image as the others. But it has the DVD release date rather than the theater release date.

I have new scare cards printed over the summer. There are 5 new additions plus a new cover card. They were given to kids who completed the Disney scare clinic over the summer. Now the scare clinics are done and the cards are out print.
But if the OK gang worked at MI, why wheren't they in Monsters Inc.?
Yeah, we thought the same thing. But hey, at least they're still keeping his memory alive in a ton of different ways!!

Thanks so much for this post guys! I know these types of posts that consolidate info are super time consuming. I think the post that took me the longest was researching every movie scale Buzz Lightyear ever made :)…so I really appreciate it! I LOVE these scare cards, and as you know, have wanted them to make a wide release of them ever since I saw the movie. I've been temped to get these Disney Parks ones but spending $50 for these may not be worth it if Dan Scanlon's tweet really meant more are coming out 🙂 I'll hold off for a bit but just in case I start collecting these, I'll know where to come! Have fun recording your podcast tonight…Can't wait!!!
