‘Incredibles 2’ Smashes the Box Office with a Record-Breaking $180 Million Opening Weekend

Incredibles 2 smashes box office records with a record-breaking $180 million opening weekend.

Pixar fans have been all over social media for the past year expressing their excitement that Incredibles 2 would be hitting theaters soon. Well, that social media buzz was more than accurate as Incredibles 2 has had a record-breaking opening weekend with early estimates totaling $180 million — absolutely smashing the opening weekend totals for an animated film (if you recall the previous record was set by Pixar’s Finding Dory with an opening weekend totaling $135 million).

Even more impressive is that Incredibles 2 has now solidified itself as the eighth largest opening weekend of all time. That coveted list of films includes four superhero films (now including Incredibles 2), two Star Wars films, and Jurassic World â€” which will be interesting to see if the chart shifts as Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom hits theaters this upcoming weekend.

Early predictions have suggested that Incredibles 2 could see a $500+ million domestic totals, which would again topple the current record holder Finding Dory’s domestic total of $486.2 million. Internationally, Incredibles 2 had an estimated $51.5 million from various international markets including the largest Pixar opening weekend in Mexico ($12.3 million), Australia ($7.7 million) and Argentina ($3 million). The global theatrical release schedule is as follows with early reports calling for total International earnings well over the $200 million mark: Brazil (Jun 28), France (Jul 4), UK (Jul 13), Korea (Jul 19), Japan (Aug 1), Spain (Aug 3), Italy (Sep 19) and Germany (Sep 27).

We cannot be happier for the entire Incredibles 2 team as the film is non-stop action, humor, awe-inspiring camera work, and a film pacing that is superb. Director Brad Bird nailed it once again with his team and now we’re left wondering along with the rest of the Pixar fans, does this record-breaking box office success ignite any desire for Brad to make a third installment of the Incredibles?
